The Missing Piece Of The Puzzle

See this content in the original post

I just wanted to give you a quick dose of encouragement to kick your week off.

You want to make a living from your music. But being a musician, being an artist, is not just a job for you and me.

Being an artist is a calling. It's our mission. It's our life's purpose. It's the thing that lights us up the most.

And it's soul-crushing when we don't get to do that. That's why we want to make a living from it, because then we'd get to do it full-time and to our heart’s content.

And so if you've been doing music for a while but you still haven't been able to make a full-time living from it, you can get discouraged. Self-doubt can creep in. You think you suck or you're not talented enough or it's a stupid, unrealistic dream.

Your lack of results don't mean that you're not still called to do this. It just means that there's a piece of the puzzle that you haven't figured out yet.

Maybe there's a complementary skill set that you haven't learned, like marketing your music.

Or maybe there's a habit you need to cultivate.

Or maybe you're not taking action consistently, or you’re taking action on things that aren't moving the needle for you.

Or maybe there is a limiting belief you need to overcome.

Whatever it is, you owe it to yourself, you owe it to your art, and you owe it to the world to figure out that missing puzzle piece.

Daniel Pink says that if you have something that benefits the world, you have a moral obligation to get it to people.

This is sacred work you're doing. It's vitally important.

You were put here to make the world more whole.

Maybe you don't believe that. But I do. If you want to figure out what that missing puzzle piece is so you can get unstuck and inspire more people with your music, I want you to know that I'm here to support you through that. All you have to do is reach out.

Remember: your lack of results don’t mean that you’re not called to make music. You’ve just got to keep going and figure out that missing puzzle piece.
