Easter, Plastic Surgery & Achieving Your Goals
Whether you're Christian or you take a more secular or even a pagan view of Easter, there are some common themes and symbols associated with Easter that are relevant to your journey to achieve your goals and dreams. I think it's useful to use these concepts of death, resurrection, rebirth, and renewal as a lens through which to look at your growth and development and achieving your goals and dreams.
How To Get Yourself To Consistently Take Action
Action is the basic building block of success, the foundation. But we don't usually take consistent action, and often we even have trouble getting started in the first place. So it's crucial that we get leverage on ourselves to take the actions we need to to build our dreams. To get leverage on ourselves, one of the dynamics that we need to pay attention to as we're taking a new action is the process of acclimation.
Are Your Excuses Greater Than Your Dreams?
Last week, I was talking to an elderly lady who plays keyboard and writes songs. She told me that recently a young woman had heard her songs and her playing and was so impressed that she asked the old lady to teach her to play keyboard. Then the old lady said to me that she agreed to take on the young woman as a student but that she'd never become a good pianist because she's left-handed.
What Do You Need To Leave Behind To Move Forward?
Normally when we get to the end of the year I talk about the importance of setting goals for the next year so that you take action and create the life of your dreams moving into the new year. But today I want to come at this from a different angle.
The Most Important Vote Of Your Life
Many of us have been caught up in the US presidential election lately. It's felt like an existential battle between the forces of good and evil. We've also just had state elections where I live. A lot of people have been wondering who they should vote for. There's a vote you can place that has a very direct impact on your success, wealth and prosperity. That's to vote for yourself. Not in the presidential election, but in the election of life.
Your Biggest Obstacle To Achieving Success In Your Music Business
What do you think your biggest obstacle to making a successful living as a musician is? Some of the common reasons I hear are things like: “It's the pandemic. It's the economy. It's the government. It's my job that doesn't pay me enough. It's my boss. It's the music industry. It's Spotify. It's the Facebook algorithm. It's my partner being demanding. It's my family commitments chewing up all my time.”
The Missing Piece Of The Puzzle
You want to make a living from your music. But being a musician, being an artist, is not just a job for you and me. It's a calling. It's our mission. It's our life's purpose. It's the thing that lights us up the most. And it's soul-crushing when we don't get to do that. If you've been doing music for a while but you still haven't been able to make a full-time living from it, you can get discouraged.
Your Career/Business Will Only Grow To The Extent YOU Grow
Often, if we're trying to solve a problem or achieve a goal, we're looking for a quick fix. We focus on getting the latest tip, hack, strategy, or tactic. And then we try it, and if we don't see results in 5 minutes, we give up on it and go looking for the next one. We get perpetually distracted chasing these things thinking they're the magic pill or silver bullet that's going to solve our problem and make everything fall into place.
The hidden danger of the DIY mindset
We think that our success with building our fanbase and making more money from our music all comes down to how much we do and what we're doing, and that's true to a large extent. But the thing we often overlook is that a major part of our success comes down to having an environment that supports us to be successful, and part of that environment is made up of the people in your life.
