How To Move Past Your Biggest Fear
As we're working towards our goals, we have to get into new environments, go through new experiences, have new relationships, and learn new things. This means that we're often outside of our comfort zone because we're dealing with unfamiliarity and uncertainty. As a result, we feel a lot of fear. This fear becomes resistance that stops us from moving forward. We don't take action on our dreams and goals because of our fear.
Is Your Intuition Keeping You Stuck?
A lot of the time we rely on our intuition. We do what “feels” right and we avoid doing things that don't feel right. We think if it feels right, it must be the right thing to do. But when it comes to achieving our goals, often the reason we get stuck and don't make progress is because we rely on our intuition.
The Missing Piece Of The Puzzle
You want to make a living from your music. But being a musician, being an artist, is not just a job for you and me. It's a calling. It's our mission. It's our life's purpose. It's the thing that lights us up the most. And it's soul-crushing when we don't get to do that. If you've been doing music for a while but you still haven't been able to make a full-time living from it, you can get discouraged.
How to Overcome Information Overload
If you've got a big, ambitious dream or goal, there will be significant challenges involved in achieving it. You'll have to learn new things if you want to move forward and make progress towards your dream. So educating yourself is crucial to your success, but this is also where some problems arise that sabotage your success.
Your Career/Business Will Only Grow To The Extent YOU Grow
Often, if we're trying to solve a problem or achieve a goal, we're looking for a quick fix. We focus on getting the latest tip, hack, strategy, or tactic. And then we try it, and if we don't see results in 5 minutes, we give up on it and go looking for the next one. We get perpetually distracted chasing these things thinking they're the magic pill or silver bullet that's going to solve our problem and make everything fall into place.
Which Pain Would You Rather Have?
All human behaviour boils down to two fundamental motivations. We move towards something in order to gain pleasure, or we move away from something in order to avoid pain. If you've got a dream or goal that's important to you but you're not taking action to move yourself closer to that goal, which of those two motivations is driving you?
Do You Ever Feel Like An Imposter?
Achieving our dreams and goals often means we have to put ourselves out there more and be in the public eye. For a lot of us, this is way outside of our comfort zone, especially if you're an introvert. We're afraid of getting judged or criticised by people. This usually manifests as imposter syndrome. We think “Who do you think you are to do this? You're not talented enough, attractive enough, smart enough, educated enough, successful enough, etc.”
What Confidence Is & How To Get It
So often when we're not moving forward and taking the actions to make our dreams a reality, it's because we don't feel confident. When we have a fear of failure and we're afraid of making mistakes, we say we lack confidence. But what is confidence?
How To Reframe Your Fear Of Failure To Achieve Success
By far, the biggest fear that immobilises us and stops us from achieving our dreams is the fear of failure. We've been culturally conditioned that failure is bad. We're taught that it's safer to just not try, so many of us don't take risks for fear of failure. And yet the most successful people are often the ones who are willing to take risks. They haven't avoided failure; they've failed the most.
Are You Tiptoeing Your Way Through Life?
Recently I caught up with a dear friend. During our conversation, she mentioned a quote that I had never heard before. And when she said it, it was like she dropped a bomb. It really profoundly affected me. It comes from Earl Nightingale: “Most people tiptoe their way through life, hoping they make it safely to death.”
Perseverance Is The Price Of Success
By the middle of February, 80% of New Year's resolutions have failed. So the overwhelming majority of people, if they even had a resolution, a goal, or a dream for their life this year, have given up on it already. If you're feeling discouraged and thinking about quitting because you feel like you're not making progress or you haven't achieved anything, I want to encourage you to keep going. Because you have achieved something.
How We Create Our Own Suffering & How To Avoid It
Pain and suffering are very powerful and can really derail our lives. It changes our behaviour towards the people around us. It changes the thoughts we have about ourselves. It's why people develop addictions. In extreme cases, it's why people commit suicide. We tend to think of pain and suffering as the same thing, but they're not. They're related, but there's a distinction. It's really important to understand this distinction because, when you do, you won't be shut down by negative situations in your life.
The Life-Changing Lesson of the Golden Buddha
Ever since I was a teenager, I thought there was something wrong with me. That I was broken or inferior. So much of my life over the last 20 years has been trying to compensate for that. When I heard this story, it was a revelation to me.
Is Criticism & Judgement From Others Holding You Back?
Often we hold ourselves back because we're afraid of what other people might say or think. We're worried about their disapproval and don't want to be criticised or humiliated. We talk ourselves out of doing those things which will move you towards your dreams and goals that you might feel some resistance to doing because of other people's negative judgement.
Be Ruthless For Your Well-being
Every day we face an assault on our well-being from multiple sources. Why am I talking about well-being in relation to achieving your goals? Because if you have don't have well-being, if you are depressed, have low self-esteem, lack of confidence, you feel physically run down, then you won't be inspired to even dream big enough to have a vision for your life in the first place.
Are You Failing On The Fundamentals?
Most people fail at the fundamentals when it comes to learning new skills. If you're not making progress, you want to ask yourself if you're failing at the fundamentals in that area. It's not because you don't know some trade secret or the latest hack or some nugget of wisdom. The thing that's going to set you up for success initially isn't in the secret sauce; it's in the fundamentals.
If It Makes You Uncomfortable, You Should Probably Do It
Abraham Maslow said, “In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety.” And the only place growth happens is at the edge of your comfort zone and slightly beyond it. Discomfort is the price of admission to a meaningful life. Facing that discomfort requires courage. Courage is not the absence of fear; it's acting in the presence of it.
Make An Investment In Yourself
One thing that prevents people from having the success they want is that they refuse to make an investment in themselves. Here's what I mean. You have a dream or a goal, and in order for you to go to that next level to achieve it, it requires that you invest in a coach or an online training course or a physical product or tool of some kind. You might think that it's about money, but it's not.
Realising Your Worthiness & Self-Esteem Through Gratitude
If you're looking for validation or love from external sources, it's always going to be unreliable. Your self-esteem is going to be very unstable because people will disappoint you at times. There's a trap in basing your self-esteem on something external, on making other people responsible for your self-esteem. You want to be self-sufficient and fill your own tank.
Are You Willing To Do Whatever It Takes?
So… you’ve got a big goal, a lifelong dream. You've got a burning desire to achieve this goal. Nothing would give you greater joy than to make this dream a reality. It's your life's purpose. But are you willing to do whatever it takes to make your dream come true, to achieve this goal? How dedicated and committed are you to getting these results? What are you willing to do to solve your challenges, to overcome your obstacles, to move forward?
